Food Experiments

I've been buying up all kinds of products to try and this page is my handy log of what works for me and what doesn't.  Color coding is green for must have foods to red for definite nos.


Engineered Foods

  • Gu Chocolate - my go to in every marathon.
  • Gu Espresso - worked fine, but didn't like the taste. Will stick with chocolate
  • Stinger honey waffle - Ok. not my favorite taste, but not bad. Worked fine, felt fine.
  • Stinger gel - Just gross tasting for me. No
  • GFB dark chocolate coconut - Didn't like the taste at all. Ate 1 or 2 in the pack. Def. no
  • Picky Bars - weird taste, maybe from sweetener. Not good.


Whole/Real Foods

  • Grizzly Bar (pb, dark chocolate, trail mix) - tasty, easy to eat
  • Oreos - Not sure if they are real foods, but they worked great for me
  • Coke  - Seems to have held back my migraines. Total win
  • PB&J - perfect except a bit messy. 
  • Koyo Tofu Miso Ramen - Tastes good, caused no trouble. Perfect soupy food. UPDATE: this does not keep well after several hours in a thermos. May be good to make on the spot if possible, but not something to pre-prepare.
  •  Dried cranberries - Pretty good and easy to eat. Should try some other dried fruits
  • Ramen, Mike's Mighty Food Vegetable - Tasted fine, felt fine, but to spicy for running
